LIVE LIKE YOU DRIVE…

Updated: Jul 11, 2020

You know where you’re going (future goals)

You pay most attention to whats in front of you (Present time)

You hardly look in the rearview mirror (The Past)… only once in awhile, or when changing lanes. Other than that you just keep moving forward

It is gonna be a bumpy ride; it can even test your patience. Life as we know it is very unpredictable. That is why you have to be attentive and focused at all times.

As you enter ADULTHOOD, you start to slowly develop how to be practical. You invest on things that will make you even more responsible.. So where exactly am I heading to…

MY FIRST CAR!!!

Having my first car is not out of WANT but instead out of NEED… and with this comes with great RESPONSIBILITY….

I need a care because my current situation or status here in Canada requires me to keep moving from one place to another up until Im able to afford my own place permanently. It is pretty convenient BUT can be troublesome when you really dont know anything about cars and most importantly, it’s gonna be added on your bills due to maintenance and ofcoures Gas money.

Sooooo

How did I managed to purchase my first car???

Well as for me, I have been driving for 8 years already so I took a document from the Philippines proving my driving history. Then when I got here I followed these steps:

  1. Register for a G1 exam - This is the Theory/written exam. When I signed up for this one I also submitted my driving history document and Philippine drivers license so they can asses my qualification in getting one here in Ontario.

- The theory exam consists of 40 questions and you are only allowed to make 8 mistakes to pass. I borrowed my friends book to study and dowloaded G1 genius and Gi Test app for practice test. the also have practice test in the Drive Test Website.

2. Register for G2 or G Road Test- Once you pass the G1 exam and got your ID, you can then proceed to register for G2 or G. So here is the difference between the two;

A. You proceed to G2 road test if this is your first time driving, like if you have never driven before and does not hold any drivers license in any country. You

B. You proceed to Full G License if you had driving experience before and hold a License from different country. The ministry of transportation will then need a proof of your driving history to decide if they can allow you to do a full G license road test.

In My Case.......

After I got my G1, the employee told me that I can either proceed to G2 or Full G license. I decided to take the Full G license but had it scheduled months after I got my G1, because I took private lessons first. Driving in the Philippines is far different from how you should drive here in Canada, so I had to practice and make sure to pass the exam..

Result??? I DID IT!!! FULL G! Yehey!!

The journey in finding and buying my Car.

It took me a while before I was able to find and buy one. I looked online and even asked some friends for recommendations. Then luckily my tito knows a Mechanic who has an Autoshop where they also sell used cars.. Viola! I got my own car.

for the registration of the vehicle and getting a license plate. the seller did everything for me

  • For A first Car for an International student, it is more practical to get a used one than buy a brand new because it is more cheaper at your end. Just make sure to grab someone with you that you know that has a knowledge about cars, or buy from a mechanic like what I did. Make sure that car you will buy will pass the Safety test or else you wont be able to have it registered
